World English Language Olympics seeking agents to manage national competitions

The recently launched WELO | World English Language Olympics English Language Olympics has launched a tender for agencies interested in managing national level competitions in their markets.

The concept of the new World English Language Olympics was unveiled earlier this year by SUL Education and partner agencies, aimed at bringing together young learners worldwide to celebrate and enhance English language education.

Following a public vote, the Governing Committee of 19 agents was announced in April.

It has now been confirmed that the first National English Language Olympics are set to take place in November, leading up to the first World English Language Olympics event in April 2026.

A public tender to select national representatives for the 2025-2029 period is now open, with agencies interested in representing their country and managing competitions in their market invited to apply.

The successful organisations will lead and organise their country’s National English Language Olympics, promote participation locally, and nominate finalists to the World Final Event.

Following the recent elections, Juan Manuel Elizalde of KELLS COLLEGE. Expertos en inmersión lingüística agency in Spain has been elected as Chair of the World English Language Olympics.

Three Vice-Chairs have also been confirmed as: Jorge Alberto Otero ( Study Union International (Colombia)) – Agencies & Public Tender Regulation; Damián Ruiz Tierraseca ( LEOH Idiomas - Educación Internacional y Viajes , Spain) – Academic & Assessment Affairs; and Diana Mondria ( Edglobal Beyond, Mexico) – Sponsorship, Brand & External Relations.

Meanwhile, Slavas Palkevicius has been appointed as Secretary General of the Organisation, and Berenice Oliva ( NEW ENGLISH TRAVEL, Italy) has become Chief of Development.
