Your WELO Journey

This guide explains how students participate in the World English Language Olympics — from registration to potential qualification for the WELO Finals.

Step 1 — Register Through Your School

Participation begins at your school.

  • Your school must be a WELO Member School
  • A School Coordinator manages student registration
  • You confirm your participation
  • Parent/guardian consent may be required

No prior competition experience is required.

Step 2 — Prepare for the WELO TOEFL® Test

The National Qualifier is delivered through the official WELO TOEFL® test.

You may receive:

  • Preparation guidance from your school
  • Practice materials (if provided locally)
  • Information about test format and structure

Preparation focuses on academic English skills and structured thinking.

Step 3 — Take the National Qualifier

During the official National Qualifier Window:

  • You sit the WELO TOEFL® test
  • The test is conducted under supervised conditions
  • All students complete the same standardised assessment

Your results determine your national ranking.

Step 4 — Receive Your Results

After the assessment:

  • You receive an official WELO TOEFL® Score Report
  • You receive a WELO Digital Certificate of Participation
  • Your national ranking placement is confirmed

All students receive formal recognition for participation.

Step 5 — Qualification to the WELO Finals

If you are among the top-ranked students in your country:

  • You may be selected for your National Team
  • You begin preparation for the WELO Finals
  • You represent your country internationally

Finalists compete at the WELO Finals in the United Kingdom.
