The World English Language Olympics (WELO) has officially concluded Phase 2 of its global development and formally entered Phase 3 – Structured Global Execution, following the latest meeting of its Governing Committee.

With quorum confirmed and 15 members participating, the Committee marked this meeting as a defining moment in WELO’s institutional evolution.

From Vision to Structure: Phase 2 Complete

Over the past year, WELO has moved from concept to coordinated international framework.

Phase 2 focused on strengthening governance, aligning international participation structures, and preparing the organisation for operational execution under its official Charter .

Chair Juan M. Elizande Sanchez stated:

“Phase 2 was about building the backbone of WELO. We needed structure before scale, governance before growth. Today, we close that chapter with confidence and clarity.”

With structural objectives fulfilled, the Governing Committee formally declared Phase 2 closed.

41 Countries Engaged in Year One

In its first operational year, 41 countries are actively participating in the WELO framework, spanning Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas.

National Committees are forming across diverse regions, supported by agencies of different sizes and backgrounds.

Among recent developments:

  • Language Kingdom joined forces within the Spanish framework.
  • Crown Education became part of the Turkish National Committee structure.

Secretary-General Slavas Palkevicius commented:

“The diversity of agencies joining WELO — from established national leaders to emerging regional organisations — proves that our model is inclusive, scalable, and internationally relevant. This is how global collaboration should function.”

Major Announcement: WELO Finals 2027 Confirmed

The Governing Committee formally confirmed that the WELO World Finals 2027 will take place at the prestigious Royal Hospital School in England.

The selection of Royal Hospital School significantly elevates WELO’s international positioning and reinforces its commitment to delivering a high-calibre global finals experience.

Juan M. Elizande Sanchez added:

“Confirming Royal Hospital School as the venue for 2027 is a milestone. It reflects the seriousness of our ambition and the level at which WELO intends to operate.”

Revealing the disciplines is a major step forward — it gives clarity, direction, and excitement to schools and students worldwide. This is where the structure becomes real.”

The confirmation of disciplines marks the moment where WELO’s academic framework becomes fully visible to the international education community.
